Every year, particularly on September 5, communities across the country recognize National Food Bank Day/Week. A week to raise awareness about hunger relief and the magnificent work of food banks, workers, and their volunteers.

Food Banks provide support for millions of families facing food insecurity. “They bridge the gap between abundance and need by rescuing surplus food and distributing it to pantries, shelters, and individuals.”

Food Banks also offer education on nutrition and workforce development programs.
Facts on Food Banks and Food Insecurity:
- 1 in 10 people in the United States experience food insecurity.
- Children and Seniors are among the most vulnerable populations.
- Food Banks help reduce food waste by redirecting perfectly good food from landfills to dinner tables.

Ways to Make a Difference on National Food Week:
Volunteer Time
- Food Banks rely on volunteers to sort, pack, and distribute food.
Donate Food or Funds
- Non-Perishable items are always welcome as well as monetary donations.
Share
- Share stories, statistics, and resources on social media.

National Food Bank Week is about coming together as a community. “When we support food banks, we’re not just filling plates; we’re fueling futures.”
Hunger is a challenge that can be overcome. Through a donation, a shared post, or a few hours of volunteering, each contribution matters.
