Celebrate Kindness on National Say Something Nice Day: June 1, 2026

Every year, “National Say Something Nice Day” is celebrated on June 1. This day reminds us of the impact words have.

A simple compliment, encouraging message, or thoughtful conversation can brighten

someone’s day!

Whether it’s thanking a coworker for their hard work, telling a friend how much they mean to you, or complimenting a stranger with sincerity, positive words can create a ripple effect.

National Say Something Nice Day is also a wonderful opportunity to pause and reflect

on how we speak to ourselves, giving ourselves grace, encouragement, and patience.

This day was created in 2006 when Mayor Keith Summey of North Charleston, South Carolina proclaimed June 1 “Say Something Nice Day” to honor the communication work of Dr. Mitch Carnell, author of Say Something Nice: Be a Lifter at Work. Since then, many cities, organizations, and groups have recognized it.

Observe National Say Something Nice Day:

-        Send a thoughtful text or handwritten note.

-        Encourage a person who may be struggling.

-        Share uplifting words on social media.

-        Thank those who serve your community.

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” – Mother Teresa
