The Power of Kindness: A Little Kindness Can Make a Big Difference

World Suicide Prevention Day is held on the 10th of September every year.

Established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in collaboration with the World Health Organization, World Suicide Prevention Day emphasizes that suicide is preventable and encourages communities, organizations, and individuals to take action.

Sometimes we don’t know what someone else is carrying:

The person standing next to us in line, the coworker who seems unusually quiet, the neighbor who always smiles but hasn't seemed quite like themselves lately.

The friend who says, "I'm fine," even when life feels anything but fine. We may never know the battles someone is facing behind the smile. That’s why kindness matters.

At God Secret Service Agents, we believe that kindness has the power to make a difference. A smile, a kind word, a thoughtful gesture, or simply taking a moment to ask someone, "How are you really doing?" can mean more than we realize.

How to Participate on World Suicide Prevention Day:

Learn and Share:

Educate yourself and others on the warning signs, risk factors, and supportive conversation techniques on suicide prevention.

Organize Events:

Host or join workshops, webinars, talks, candlelight vigils, or remembrance ceremonies.

Use Visual Symbols:

Wear yellow or orange ribbons, or light public spaces in these colors to show support.

Another Observance:

In the United States Suicide Prevention Week runs from September 13th - September 19, 2026, closely following World Suicide Prevention Day.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, we are also reminded of the importance of connection.

Maybe we simply remind someone: "I'm glad you're here."

We may never know how much a small act of kindness means to someone.

But that's the beautiful thing about kindness, we don't have to know what someone is going through to choose to be kind.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, God Secret Service Agents encourages everyone to look around, reach out, listen, and spread a little kindness.

Because sometimes, a little kindness can be a whole lot of hope.
